3102 - Managing New Electric Connections in Northern Ireland

Session Speakers
Session Description

The Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) Networks operates the electricity distribution network which transports electricity to over 860,000 customers in Northern Ireland and were the sole entity that could design and build new electric connections. Starting in 2017, citizens can now ask an Independent Connections Provider to undertake the 'contestable' work required for 5MW or larger connections. To support these new regulations and move from paper-based workflows to digital, NIE required a new GIS system for the management of all new connection requests. NIE selected GeoMedia Smart Client Advantage to manage the complete workflow of capturing the proposed network and outputting the proposal to large-scale printed maps. Ciaran Kirk will present on how IMGS implemented this solution for NIE in under 4 months. See how Workflow Manager was used to build an advanced workflow to manage the complete new connection job life cycle. In addition, IMGS integrated Smart Client with NIE's existing GE Smallworld geographic GIS to provide a view of the as-built network in Smart Client.
