3006 - Automated Change Detection of Urban Objects and Development of a Web Application

Session Description

The Delta Municipality in the Kalochori region in Northern Greece needed a way to automatically detect significant changes of urban objects. Using advanced remote sensing techniques on high-resolution aerial (RGB and CIR) and multispectral satellite images as well as DSMs extracted by LIDAR and Dense Image Matching (DIM) point clouds. Once the DTMs were extracted by filtering the ground points, the corresponding orthoimages were generated. The resulting orthoimages were fed into ERDAS IMAGINE to extract the corresponding change maps on the area of interest. A point-cloud-to-point-cloud comparison validated the results. Finally, building detection processes using the LIDAR and the DIM point clouds were performed using 3D modeling applications. All this information is organized and disseminated through the Web GIS platform which was implemented using ERDAS APOLLO.
